COMPANY HISTORY

David Hackenberg started Hackenberg Apiaries in 1962 as a Vo-Ag project at Mifflinburg High School in Pennsylvania. Today, he and his son operate approximately 3,000 hives of bees in 5 states for pollination and honey. Hackenberg Apiaries does approximately 7,500 pollination rentals each year, pollinating apples, blueberries, cantaloupes, pumpkins, and cranberries, as well as other fruits and vegetables. Most of the honey produced is sold to commercial honey packers. Hackenberg Apiaries is based out of Lewisburg, PA, with winter headquarters in Dade City, FL. David has served as President of the American Beekeeping Federation and currently sits on the National Honey Board as the producer representative for region 7, representing 18 states in the eastern United States. David also sits on numerous bee research committees across the United States.

Daves Bio

David grew up on a farm in Mifflinburg, PA, and as with most farmers, he quickly learned the meaning of hard work. As a teenager, he became interested in bees and beekeeping, thanks to some books on bees his father had given him. David started with one colony of bees as a Vo-Ag project his sophomore year at Mifflinburg High School. By the time he was a senior, David had expanded his single colony to 150 and had begun his life-long career as a beekeeper.

Not much has changed, except maybe the size of his company, Hackenberg Apiaries. He now runs approximately 3,000 colonies along with his wife, Linda, and his son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Beth Hackenberg. David and his wife, Linda, have been married for 35 years and have 4 children: David, Kevin, Jeanne, and Betsy.

Daveys Bio

Working for his dad as a teenager (and even before that!), Davey found out what beekeeping is all about. As with many jobs, he would say it has its ups and downs, but when the day is done, hes still a beekeeper. Davey is part owner of Hackenberg Apiaries and has become just as skilled at the art of beekeeping as his father. Daveys wife, Beth, also works for the company, managing the bookkeeping and making beeswax ornaments and candles. Davey and Beth have three sons (and one more on the way), the oldest of whom are already developing a true love for beekeeping!
